Review / Info: (5/10) Sonically, the MDR-W10 (MDR-A10 foldable version) prioritizes bass over refinement. Its “Turbo” acoustic design delivers strong low-end response, but the bass often becomes overly boomy, masking much of the midrange and treble detail. As a result, the earphones lack the clarity and resolution found in higher-end models, with many instrumental textures sounding muted or lost altogether. Compared to the earlier MDR-W20, the difference in clarity is dramatic—almost as if the music is being played from another room. Another common issue is the cable. The insulation on many surviving pairs tends to harden with age, making the cable more prone to tangling and giving it a less tidy appearance than earlier Sony models. Overall, the MDR-W10 serves as a respectable entry-level earphone for listeners who prefer a warm, bass-forward sound. However, in my opinion, its limited detail retrieval and recessed presentation prevent it from competing with the stronger performers in Sony’s vintage earphone lineup.
